AT THE END OF THE STORM,
THERE’S A GOLDEN SKY
What to expect from the BTL Market in 2021
When assessing the 2020 buy-to-let marketplace you’d be forgiven for not instantly seeing parallels with the dramatic transformation of a struggling Second Division football club in the 1950s. But, look a little closer, and you might be surprised by what you find.
For, while not glossing over how tough the storm was last year, I feel we can be proud of the way our collective industry stood together and walked on with resilience and togetherness. If we continue to do this, success follows. And that’s the take-out from this footballing history lesson.
Way back in the 1950’s you would have found the national game looked very different from the lucrative and glamorous obsession we know today. And back then you would have found Liverpool Football Club a very different institution from the global powerhouse of 2021.
The club was founded in 1892, and had sporadic moments in the spotlight, but by the fifties was floundering in the second tier of English football. Meanwhile, the city’s proud working class roots were being eroded by strikes, unemployment, and civil unrest.
However, something changed in 1959 when they appointed the (literally) game- changing Scottish manager, Bill Shankley, who recognised the power of the group.
He didn’t see differences between players, coaches, and fans. Instead, he had a vision of a collective one-ness, that if harnessed could make them unstoppable. And so it proved.
