Twenty7Tec voted one of the top companies to work for in the UK

By quirk of numerical fate, Twenty7Tec has been voted the UK’s 27th best employer. Bournemouth-based firm built its success using creative team building, including an outdoor music festival, house points and unique team building days.

Leading mortgage technology company Twenty7Tec has been voted the 27th Best Small Company to work for in this year’s UK’s Best Companies league table.

The Bournemouth-based business was also recognised as the 14th Best Technology Company to work for in the UK, and ranked as the 21st Best Company to work for in the South West.

Formerly known as The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies, Best Companies acknowledged the firm for its forward-thinking workplace culture, after analysing survey results from its 62 employees.

The results found that 88% of staff agreed that Twenty7Tec has a strong social conscience. This reflected good cause activity, including supporting local homeless shelter, Michael House, and dozens of charity fundraising events.

Additionally, it concluded that 83% of staff felt that their job is good for their personal growth, recognising the company’s focus on development opportunities. These include mentoring programmes, and 15 hours of paid-for personal development time per year for each staff member.

Employees also highlighted the quality of work-life balance at the fintech firm, with the company investing heavily in wellbeing offerings. These include vitality health care, personal development talks from mindfulness experts, as well as free yoga classes, and popular cycling and walking clubs.

James Tucker, Founder and CEO of Twenty7Tec, said: “I’m really proud of every single person at Twenty7Tec. Since our launch in 2015, we’ve been evolving and adapting quickly, putting our employees at the forefront of what we do and that’s exactly how we plan to continue. We understand that it’s our people that make our company and we’re completely committed to building an inclusive and thriving environment for everyone. We aim to transform diversity and inclusion into more than just a box-ticking exercise, which is why this year we created Together@Twenty7Tec where we invite our staff to become diversity champions.”

Best Companies also recognised Twenty7Tec for its innovative team-building. This includes its annual music festival in Dorset for staff and their families, as well as creative Team Challenge Days, like the recent ‘The Apprentice’ inspired team-bonding day. As well as this, it took into account Twenty7Tec’s unique reward scheme for employees, where staff are assigned into four ‘Houses’. This initiative sees House and Individual points awarded for character-based achievements, with regular prize giving for successful groups.

Steph Teague, Head of Communication, Culture and Media commented “We have a unique culture where our core values, to act with integrity, to deliver, and to lead through innovation are tied to a house point system. We aim to foster a culture of both collaboration and healthy competition, and this helps us do that. Teams battle it out with various activities to win Amazon vouchers and technology gifts such as Sonos Bars, iPad’s and Fitbits. There is a fantastic sense of team spirit through the business.”
